Calvin's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Calvin Carter. Born on February 11, 1946, Calvin departed this life on April 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength, loyalty, love and a memorable sense of humor.
Calvin was educated in New York City and graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in 1964. He proudly served his country as a veteran of both the United States Air Force and the United States Navy.
In 1975, Calvin married the love of his life, Maccine McCaskill Carter. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Stacey, whose birth brought great joy and purpose to their lives. Family was central to who Calvin was, and he took pride in the home and life he built.
Calvin was known for his strong opinions, steady nature, and unmistakable personality. He had a sharp wit, a dry sense of humor, and a stubborn streak that those closest to him came to know well. More than anything, he was loyal and deeply devoted to the people he loved.
He enjoyed simple pleasures—watching old westerns, smoking cigars, and traveling. He also looked forward to his favorite TV shows, monthly card games with close friends, and staying active through cardio and weightlifting.
Calvin is survived by his daughter, Stacey Carter; his brothers, Willy James Carter and Caleb Carter Jr.; his sister-in-law, Carol (Willy James) Carter; his sisters-in-law, Cloteal (Maccine Carter) Smith, Gloria (Maccine Carter) McCaskill, Shirley (Maccine Carter) Smith, Grace (Maccine Carter) McCaskill, Carolyn (Maccine Carter) Aldrick, and Jewelean (Maccine Carter) Durr; brothers-in-law Samuel (Maccine Carter) Aldrick and Foster (Maccine Carter) McCaskill II; his girlfriend, Shirley Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maccine McCaskill Carter; his father, Caleb Carter, Sr.; and his mother, Frances Lewis Carter.
Calvin’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. His memory will live on through those who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed.
