Calvin's obituary

>Calvin "Cowboy" Chandler, 87, of New Castle, DE, passed away on March 01, 2026 after a battle with Cancer. He was born September 29, 1938, in Townsend, Delaware, to the late Ernest Chandler and Glady Henry.  He was one of 12 children from Ernest Chandler.  Calvin attended Louis Redding Comprehensive High School.  He later joined and served in the US Military/Army from 1963 to 1967, being stationed in Munich, Germany for two of those years.  Calvin was employed  by various companies in life ranging from The Delaware State Hospital, Shoppers Fair,  Phoenix Steel, Wilmington Police Department , and Preston Trucking Company.  He retired from Preston after over 25 years, but did take up a part-time Securitas position for a couple years afterwards.  He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1974,  serving in many  capacities until his death in March of 2026, and could be found out in "field service" daily.  In his free time he enjoyed cheering for his favorite Philadelphia teams (the Phillies and the Eagles), hosting barbecues, going fishing, or working in his yard. 

Calvin is survived by his wife Burnette Chandler ( 46 years), a daughter Ernestine ( w/Evelyn Beard-Chandler-deceased), a son Tony Watson, stepchildren Ron Beard, Deania Beard, and Kim Beard, brothers Richard Chandler, Frank Chandler (Joyce), and Ellis Chandler (Brenda), 4 grandchildren Shakila , Jadon, Kavon, and Malachi. Host of nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by siblings Ernest Chandler, Theodore Chandler, Delroy Chandler,  Grace Dennison, Alma Chandler, Margaret Gardley, Connie Saunders, daughter Cheretha Chandler (Evelyn Beard-Chandler), and stepdaughter Tanya Moses.  He will be buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Bear, Delaware on April 7, 2026.
