My condolences to Laura and the Aguilar family. Caleb was a great childhood friend of mine. Caleb and his family moved in next door when we were both around 6-7 years old. Immediately, we became friends with each other and would do many things together. I remember going over to his house play Super Mario Bros, build Legos, shoot hoops, or throw a football almost every day for 5 years before my family and I moved away. My most prominent memories of Texas and my childhood involve Caleb in some aspect. Even down to getting rides to and from school. We liked many similar things, so it was very easy to get along with him. I can’t think of a time where we ever argued with each other. Just that whenever I went over to play, we would find a way to make it as enjoyable as we could.
Last year, my family and I had the chance to visit our old Texas friends and Caleb and I were able to connect again. I’m more and more grateful for that trip than ever before. I said that the next time I’d see him we’d go to a Texas Rangers or a Saints game to catch up. It seems the Lord planned that to happen a little later than we thought.
I’ll greatly miss my friend. But, I know I’ll see Caleb again and he will be reunited with his family. His faith and his diligence were always attributes I admired about him, and something I strive to gain. If I am to become even half the man Caleb was, I’d be more than happy with that.
Love, Chase
