C. Adrian's obituary

C. Adrian DeRoo died at home on November 13th, 2020 at the age of 73. Adrian is survived by his wife, Daphne, son, Gabriel, two daughters, Zoe and Mikola, one grandson Bodhi and three siblings Deborah, Melinda and Noel.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Edward DeRoo and Dorothy Strouse on February 10th, 1947. He bounced between the U.S. and Canada through the early parts of his life before settling down in New York City and buying a home in the Bronx.

Adrian was a music lover and passionate musician who loved to sing and play guitar and harmonica. He wrote and recorded hundreds of original songs. He had a powerful way with words that also manifested itself as poignant and relevant wit and humor. He couldn’t resist his natural propensity to want to make those around him smile.

He worked for the NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority for many years. During his years on the job he was an active leader in the Transit Workers Union (TWU). He served as Union Representative, defending the rights of improperly fired union members. He was a huge proponent of workers rights and was dedicated to standing up for and speaking on behalf of his co-workers.

He wanted to make the world a better place, practiced activism and frequently spoke out on behalf of marginalized groups. He was highly resistant to following conventional norms and would often encourage others to seek out their own truth beyond the trends of society. He was a staunch environmentalist and went out of his way to conserve resources and reduce litter in the community.

Adrian spent the last chapter of his life in Longmont, Colorado spending time with his family. He spent his days reading (a life-long passion of his), talking on the phone with beloved friends and relatives, playing tapes and listening to music. He spent the weekends taking his son, daughter-in-law and grandson out to breakfast and watching Mr. Rogers with Bodhi.

He was deeply loved by all that knew him and will be truly missed.
