Butch's obituary
Butch "Popi/Pops" Ifland, 74, of Washington, MO, passed away on October 06, 2022 after suffering a major stroke, surrounded by his loving family.
Butch was born on June 25th, 1948 to Evelyn Ruth Messex and Raymond Gustav Ifland at City Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was raised in the projects of St. Louis and later graduated from Ritenour High School in 1966, where he was on their state baseball championship teams. Butch voluntarily entered the Army after high school and was sent to Vietnam and other undisclosed locations. Upon his very blessed return, he graduated from the Greater St. Louis Police Academy in 1975 and landed his first law enforcement job serving the City of Brentwood, MO as a Patrol Officer. He later worked for the City of Ballwin, MO and the St. Charles County Sherrifs Dept where he retired, after so proudly serving in various roles including the Detective Bureau, Fugitive Unit, Auto Theft Task Force, D.A.R.E., Student Resource Officer and as a supervisor with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.
He met Nancy Jane Gerler from Maryland Heights, MO, and they wed in 1968, blessed with (2) children, son Tim and daughter Kristi. Butch was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. Anyone who knew Butch, knew his family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his kids Kristi and Tim and always tried his best to encourage, support and guide them.
Butch was as a longtime member of Harley Owners Group and the NRA as he had a passion for motorcycles and guns. He could often be found riding his Harley or at the range when he wasn’t at home watching college football and basketball, or spending time with his friends.
Butch was predeceased by his father Raymond Ifland Sr., mother Evelyn Ruth Vraniak, stepfather Leonard Vraniak. He is survived by his son Tim (wife Lisa), daughter Kristi, brothers Mike and Len and sisters Pat and Kathy, along with grandchildren Tyler, Dylan and Ashlinn.
