Background
Pop was a Vietnam Veteran and lost several of his brothers during his tour. He often contributed to veteran related events and fundraisers, although he could never get much assistance from the VA for his war related health challenges. He always had a love for large breed dogs and was very fond of K9s, so.....
K9s For Warriors serves our veterans as honorably as they served their country, by providing highly-trained Service Dogs to military veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma, enabling them to thrive, while limiting or eliminating the need for pharmaceuticals that only help them cope. The majority of dogs coming from high-kill rescue shelters, so this organization saves two lives at a time.
Additionally, they are proud advocates of The Honoring Our PACT Act, which was signed into law on August 10, 2022. The new law will positively impact over 95% of their graduates by expanding VA health care and benefits for over 3.5 million Veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during their military service, including burn pits. In addition, the law will streamline the VA’s review process, establish presumption of service connection for 23 respiratory illnesses, and require medical exams for veterans with disability claims related to toxic exposures, Agent Orange, and radiation. Pop suffered from PTSD, was exposed to Agent Orange and also had respiratory issues.
