Bruce was a friend and mentor to me when I was a graduate student and he was a Post-doc in the Jan lab at UCSF. His knowledge and encouragement helped me get through graduate school. I am deeply saddened by this loss.

I had the pleasure and honor of recruiting Bruce away from the Bay Area to join the UW and VA Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center. Our program was motivated to acquire the talents of an emerging star in molecular biology and had the good fortune to get a wonderful, warm, fun, smart, hardworking team member in the package. It was always a pleasure to see him and hear about how Flora and Sarah were doing when I bumped into him at the UW over the years. What a lovely, lovely person! I will miss him. He brought kindness, warmth and grace to the world!
