Chip's obituary
In Loving Memory of Bruce “Chip” Harlan Saltman
November 7, 1945 – December 19, 2025
It is with deep love—and a touch of humor, because Chip would have insisted—that we announce the passing of Bruce “Chip” Harlan Saltman, known to nearly everyone simply as Chip.
Chip was the beloved husband of Norva Saltman, a devoted father to Jamisen Lucero, a proud father-in-law to Ruben Lucero, and an adoring grandfather to Presley Lucero. He was one of the funniest, kindest, and most in-tune people in the world—someone who made others feel instantly at ease.
Chip was truly a friend to everyone he met. Traveling with him meant you were guaranteed to run into someone he knew—no matter where you were. If he didn’t already have a connection, he made one within minutes. Strangers rarely stayed strangers for long.
A gifted musician, artist, and creator, Chip wrote beautiful music and loved to create simply for the joy of it. He was also an extraordinary teacher—patient, generous, and endlessly curious. His students often said they learned so much from him, while Chip would always smile and say that he learned just as much from them. Teaching, for him, was never one-sided; it was a shared experience rooted in respect, curiosity, and connection. His legacy will live on through the many students he inspired.
In his younger years, Chip was a skilled athlete, excelling at tennis, and a professional tap dancer—proof that rhythm, movement, and creativity were always part of who he was.
Chip passed peacefully at home on December 19, 2025, surrounded by his family, in exactly the way he wanted to go—on his own terms, with love close and no unnecessary fuss. True to form.
Those who loved him will remember his laughter, his music, his art, his warmth, and his perfectly timed remarks. While he will be deeply missed, he leaves behind a legacy of creativity, kindness, and friendships that span far more places than any map could capture.
In remembering Chip, we invite you to smile, share a story, play a favorite song, and laugh when the moment calls for it. He wouldn’t have had it any other way.
