Bruce's obituary

Bruce Wilhelm Newman was born October 4, 1929, to Anslie Neil Newman and Laurine Frances Newman in Hamtramck Michigan. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on May 12,2023 at his home in Macomb, Illinois.

When Bruce graduated high school at Hamtramck High, he drove to Pensacola Florida to join the Marines. From there, he became a pilot and flew in battle during the Korean conflict. He returned to the states and served in a variety of capacities. He retired from the USMC a Major, and Naval Aviator who was certified to fly fixed wing, prop and Jet planes as well as helicopters. He was a carrier qualified pilot and taught aviation in the Naval Training Command.

In his retirement he was a gardener, landscaper, farmer and photographer. He was an advocate for organic gardening, healthy eating and nutrition and was an enthusiastic role model for many local kids and his grandchildren.

Bruce was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice, daughter Laurie, and infant son James. A younger brother, Dale, survives.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Stephany, her children Jessica (Greg) Frost and John (Karen) Snow, as well as his children, Robert, Jean, Christie, Seth and Rachel and numerous grandchildren. He also leaves behind his devoted friend Fannie Mae Kempf plus beloved friend and neighbor Brandon James and his children Riley, Mason, and Jackson, all of whom were core elements so he was able to remain at home during his last years.

Donations may be made to MDH Hospice program or the Schultz Foundation for Advancing Counseling. The family is extremely grateful to the Hospice team for their caring, support, and ensuring that his passing was in the place he loved surrounded by family
