Bruce's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Bruce Egland, a loving father, grandfather, and husband. Bruce was born on May 3, 1954, and left us too soon on March 10, 2026.

Bruce was a man of integrity and humour, known deeply for his stoic nature juxtaposed with a charming sense of wit. His work ethic and unswerving loyalty were unmatched, lessons that he passed down to his beloved children and grandchildren.

A lover of books, Bruce had an affinity for narratives about Oregon and westerns, specifically The Lonesome Dove Series. Unforgettable moments were spent on the couch, engrossed in Gunsmoke, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers, his favorite sports team.

Bruce worked in the automotive industry for over 50 years! He spent his children’s entire lives at the same company, through a few buyouts. He was known as an old car guru.

He cherished long drives and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren more than anything in the world. Bruce had an admiration for the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge, a place he considered his favourite destination for unwinding and reflection.

Bruce's favorite meals were from Gartner's or Otto's, complemented with a glass of beer or ice-cold root beer. His favorite color was green, reflecting his love for Oregon's lush landscapes.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Sonyia Egland, to whom he was married in 1974. He also leaves behind his two children, Shanna and Austin Egland; and his four grandchildren, Tanner Egland, Ivey Egland, Shayla Swagerty, and Charli Swagerty. His legacy of kindness and generosity will live on through them.

A funeral service to honor Bruce's life will be held on April 18, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Mt. Scott Funeral Home. The family welcomes all who knew and loved Bruce to join them in paying their respects.

Bruce, your spirit will forever live on in the hearts of the many lives you touched. You will be missed immensely.
