It is with great sadness that the family of Bruce Culham announces that he passed away on January 3, 2018 at the age of 86, after two years of declining health.

Elliott Bruce Culham led an interesting life that took him all over the world. After growing up in Saskatchewan and Alberta, his work in the Royal Canadian Air Force and on seismic crews led him to work in Germany, the U. S., Argentina, Tanzania, and Venezuela. He later moved to Nanton and then Claresholm, Alberta, where he worked for several Ford dealerships and tended bar at the Claresholm Legion. Over the years, he was active with the Nanton and Claresholm Lions Clubs, Stavely Elks and Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #41, Claresholm). After retiring in 1996, Bruce pursued his passions for golfing, shooting pool with his pals, curling, watching sports on TV, doing crossword puzzles, and driving his prized old Lincoln Continental (dubbed “the aircraft carrier” for its size). When not at the golf course, Bruce could be found at the Claresholm Legion, where he will be fondly remembered.

Bruce had a mischievous sense of humour, which he sustained even through his last days. “Grandpa Grump”, as he was known to his grandkids, loved to tease and banter with everyone he encountered, including family, friends and the care staff at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre, where he spent his last two years.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Lillian (née Wirth). He also leaves behind his loving children Jody, Tara (Martin), Leslie, and Clinton (Donna); grandchildren Laura, Sarah, Campbell, and Trinity. Bruce will also be missed by his brother Jim, sister Vivian and a large extended family. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Walter Culham and Iva Culham (née Gordon)

There will a private family service in January. An open celebration of life will be held at the Claresholm Legion in the spring.

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to the doctors and care staff at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support the local charity of your choice, the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre (Box 700, Claresholm AB, T0L 0T0), or the Claresholm General Hospital (Box 610, Claresholm AB, T0L 0T0).
