Bruce's obituary

Obituary for Bruce Andrachuk (1936 to 2021)

Bruce Andrachuk, retired Canadian police officer, horticulture enthusiast, and the last surviving member of the Andrachuk family, passed away peacefully in 2022 at the age of 85.

Born in 1936, Bruce dedicated over three decades to serving his community as a respected police officer. Known for his integrity, compassion, and steadfast commitment, he was a mentor and friend to many throughout his career.

Bruce shared a lifelong passion for horticulture with his late sisters, Amy Katherine Andrachuk of Toronto, Canada and Victoria Andrachuk of New Orleans, Louisiana. Together, they nurtured vibrant gardens and inspired others with their love of the natural world. Bruce continued this tradition by supporting community gardens and environmental initiatives in his native Toronto.

He was predeceased by his parents and beloved siblings Norman, Paul, Steven, Victoria, and Amy Katherine Andrachuk.

Bruce was a descendant on his mother's side of Robert Land, one of the founders of Hamilton, Ontario, and of Colonel Robert Land, a prominent figure in the War of 1812. Robert Land (1739–1818) was a United Empire Loyalist, British spy during the American Revolution, and one of the first British settlers of Hamilton. His son, Colonel Robert Land, served with distinction during the War of 1812 and played a key role in the early development of the Hamilton area.

Bruce’s legacy is marked by his dedication to public service, his love of gardening, and his deep connection to a family history that helped shape Ontario’s early settlement. In keeping with his wishes, a tree will be planted in his memory in the local community garden, honoring both his horticultural passion and his enduring family heritage.

Donations in Bruce’s memory may be made to local horticultural societies or police benevolent funds.

His spirit lives on in the gardens he tended, the community he served, and the rich history he proudly carried.
