Britt's obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Britt Wooten, who left us on March 12, 2024. He was at home and was surrounded by family and loved ones. Fondly known as “Dad” & “Grandpa”, to the ones who loved him most. He was born on February 17, 1947, and his journey of life was filled with love, laughter, and a profound dedication to his family.

Britt is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Wooten, whom he married in 1965. Their love story was one for the ages, encapsulated in every precious moment they shared together and the legacy they built together growing their family and love

The legacy of his love and dedication is carried on by his children Mechelle King; Jim (Colleen) Wooten; and Stephanie (Doug) Irick; his grandchildren Brittany (Craig) Vance, Travis Wooten, Britt (Taylor) Wooten, Dustin (Kayla) Wooten, Savannah Irick, Tyler Irick, and Troy Irick; and his siblings Tom, Ann, Verda, Lyle, Tim, Charlie, and Jeff Wooten. He was predeceased by his parents Bige and Flo Wooten; his brother Mason Wooten; and his great grandchild Bentleigh Vance.

Britt was a man of many loves, from the classic country tunes of Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson to the cinematic adventures of John Wayne. His wit could be best encapsulated in his love for humorous songs like “I don’t look good naked anymore” and “ghost chickens in the sky.”

A hard-working man, Britt spent his entire career working for the railroad. He was a loving, kind, caring, dedicated, strong, and brave personality whose mantra was that anything worth having takes hard work and dedication, and anything easy isn't worth a damn. He was a stalwart pillar of strength for everyone who had the privilege to know him.

In his spare time, he enjoyed being with his family, hunting, fishing, and visiting local spots like Studebakers, Longhorn Steakhouse, and the property in Terre Haute. Yet, his favorite vacation spot was anywhere as long as his family was there.

His legacy remains as one of family being the most important thing in life. He truly embodied the belief of always giving one's best and being an example of hard work and dedication for all. Britt's memory will continue to be a beacon of love and strength for his family, not a single day will pass that he isn’t missed.

Blue and coral were his colors and his personality was as vibrant and warm as these hues. Britt Wooten has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and friends. We mourn his passing but celebrate his phenomenal life and the love he bestowed upon us. His spirit lives on in each one of us. Farewell, dear Britt. You will be sorely missed.
