Background
Brianna worked for a high school in South Dallas that participated in the No Kid Hungry campaign. She would personally buy snacks and keep them in her classroom for kids who did not have enough to eat. No Kid Hungry, a Share Our Strength campaign, works to end childhood hunger by enhancing school meal programs and advocating for policy changes. In Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD), where ~90% of 140,000 students qualify for free or reduced-price meals, No Kid Hungry Texas has boosted breakfast participation by 30,000 students since 2012 through Breakfast in the Classroom programs and supported meal access with a $10,000 grant in 2020 for new equipment after tornado damage, aligning with Dallas ISD’s universal free meals for 2024-2025.
Brianna was diagnosed with breast cancer while she was pregnant. This diagnosis also prompted genetic testing, which revealed she and other immediate family members were positive for BRCA2. She immediately started treatment at Texas Oncology and got to know the other patients, nurses, doctors, and staff in both the Dallas and Fort Worth locations. Texas Oncology was able to guide her through the process of taking chemotherapy while being pregnant and immediately following the birth of Charlie. She continued to receive radiation, ongoing chemo, and targeted cell therapy specific to BRCA2 gene carriers. Texas Oncology Foundation provided resources for Brianna's cancer journey for both her and her family.
As both a devoted teacher and a lifelong learner, Brianna cherished the value of education. In her honor, a 529 educational fund has been created for her son, Charlie. For those who feel moved to support his future in this way, you may do so through the following link:
