Brian's obituary
Brian Richard Willey passed away on December 27, 2023 after a two year battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.Brian was born on June 28, 1947 in Westfield, Massachusetts and was the oldest child of Richard and Rita Willey. He grew up in Chester, Massachusetts until the family relocated to West Springfield. He loved going to his grandparents' camp at Big Pond in Otis during the summers where swimming, boating, fishing and family games of pinochle were enjoyed by all. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1965.Brian joined the U.S. Air Force in 1966 and was stationed at Moffett Field in Mountain View, California. He was trained in IT and computer systems and worked on high security projects during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged after four years and accepted a job at Hewlett Packard. He had a long career as an IT project manager at HP until his retirement in 2009.Brian lived life to the fullest. He loved skiing in Lake Tahoe in the winters and camping in his VW van with family in the summers. He enjoyed going to San Francisco 49er games while also continuing to root for his childhood teams from Boston. He loved watching a good car race- from Sprint cars to Nascar. He was passionate about music, especially classic rock and was frequently jamming along on his guitars. He spent his retirement life enjoying RVing in the southwest. His final two years were spent between Yuma and Benson Arizona.Brian is survived by his present wife, Carol, his ex-wife and mother to his daughters Nicci Slack, his daughters Carrie Mitooka (Joel), and Danelle Van Metre (John), grandchildren Cole, Ava, and Grant Mitooka, and Logan and Daisy Van Metre, mother Rita Willey, sister Leah Knorr, brother Vernon Willey, and niece Jenny Duran (Ray). He is preceded in death by his father Richard Willey and his brother Gene Willey.A memorial service will be held in the next few months in California.
