WOW, I decided to search for Brian again after several unsuccessful attempts for many years! I am saddened to find him now this way.

The Navy picture brought back instant memories, I know 5 of the 6 names in that picture. I know EXACTLY where where it was taken, in the DC Shop across from CCS. I was on the Groves with Sweeney when that picture was taken.

I remember Lenny and Brian would talk football for hours, Sweeney loved his Corn Huskers, I believe Lenny loved TN!

I still kick myself in the butt for not buying his silver 87 Monte Carlo!

I am taken back by the news! RIP Brian!

Brian is my ex husband. We parted 3 years ago and shared almost a decade together. He was a good man, a good friend, and very good step parent . We went on countless family vacations / and made countless memories. Despite our decision to part ways, we continued to share a family and dog. We were friends. There aren’t enough words to describe Brian. He was private, but deeply loyal to those he cared about. Brian walked into a marriage with 4 teen step children. Enough said:) He was with me for a reason and a season and he and I both know what the reasons were. I think he is as grateful to me as I him. I hope he’s watching football in heaven with his best friend Tilly the pug.

When I met Brian he was about 2 years old our parents got married so there fore I got to inherit 2 younger brothers what a thrill for me and thru the years we always came back and shared love between us. But the one crazy memory was when Brian was maybe 2 or just young okay he would scream like a little girl cuz he wanted something lol and I always would say even to this day you not gonna scream like that again are ya? Well people even grown he was still screaming on that ball field so I will miss you and I am proud to be your sister for both my brothers ..... all my love lynnette sue

It’s hard not to get attached to umpires as you attempt to keep it “professional” but it’s very hard not to in 12 years of working with someone like Brian. By far my favorite umpire I’ve had the pleasure of working with! Our softball community just lost a solid and dedicated individual – He will be sorely missed…

Until we take the field together again… RIP Brother!!

I will miss my friend very much!!! Fair winds and following seas, may you find safe harbor in the eternal waters. — with Brian Sweeney
I am so sorry to hear that Brian passed away.  I always enjoyed working with him and we laughed several times over some experiences we had on the field together.  My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.
Brian was just a great person and very laid back. My kind of people! He was a fellow veteran  whom I always enjoyed working with.  It was very shocking to hear of his passing and he will be dearly missed.
You're going to be missed. My prayers and heartfelt sorry for his passing.  Shared many memories with you. He was kind, professional, long-slotter, and a great partner to all.
SO SORRY TO HEAR MY DEEPEST FEELING GOES  OUT TO THE SWEENEY FAMILY
My heart and prayers go out to Brian's family, relatives and friends. It was always a pleasure umpiring and visiting with Brian.
My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Brian. On behalf of softball players, coaches and fans throughout this community and beyond, thank you for selflessly giving your time and energy to so many.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Brian. He will be missed. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I will keep his family in my prayers. RIP
Brian officiated our final State game last Thursday—MW vs. Papio—but that was just one example of the consistency and professionalism he brought to every game he worked. Throughout the years, Brian was a steady presence on the field: fair, composed, and always in control. He never let emotion sway his judgment and treated every team and every player with equal respect. We truly appreciated his integrity, his consistency, and the way he upheld the spirit of the game every time he stepped on the field. MW Softball

My condolences to Brian's family. I first met Brian when I was just an 10U catcher in Omaha and most recently during high school games of my sophomore season. He will be missed! Thanks for years of umpire catcher conversation!
Sorry for your loss. I knew Brian from his umpiring my softball teams I coached and my daughters through the years. Such a great person. He will be missed.
