Brian's obituary
**Brian Matthew Patrick McGuinness**
*December 8, 1954 – September 19, 2024*
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Matthew Patrick McGuinness, 69, who passed away on September 19, 2024, in Delray Beach, Florida. Brian was born in the Bronx, New York, and raised in Queens, where he shared a lively home with his siblings Billy, Jimmy, Irene, and Margaret. He was the cherished son of James E. McGuinness and Irene (Flynn) McGuinness.
Brian was a man of many passions, excelling in both art and music, with a love for cooking that turned every meal into a celebration. His adventurous spirit led him to daring pursuits, from piloting planes to building sailboats by hand, always eager to explore and create.
He was the heart of his family and community, known for opening his home and welcoming everyone as if they were family. Brian had a remarkable ability to bring people together, whether through a shared meal or his infectious warmth and kindness.
Growing up in Queens, Brian was drawn to the natural world, spending countless hours exploring the swamps around Little Neck. That love of exploration stayed with him throughout his life, always curious, adventurous, and eager to learn.
In 1979, Brian joined the NYPD alongside his brother Jimmy, embarking on a distinguished career. Starting in the housing department, he later transferred to the 52nd precinct in the Bronx. By the late 1980s, he had risen to the rank of sergeant, supervising the anti-crime unit in the 42nd precinct of the South Bronx. Brian’s contributions continued as he helped form the NYPD Computer Crime and Technology Unit, which paved the way for new advancements in law enforcement. His career in the NYPD, which spanned two decades, ended in retirement on December 31, 1999, after earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Following his retirement, Brian remained active in his field, serving as a consultant for Microsoft. He traveled the country teaching about computer crime to police departments and later founded his own computer forensics company, C2 Associates. Through his work, he collaborated with federal and state agencies on numerous high-profile cases.
But of all his accomplishments, Brian’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dede, his son, Jason, and his "late to the game" daughter, Logan, as well as his grandson, Jason Jr. Brian is also survived by his siblings, Margaret Ellsworth (John), Irene Castellano (Joseph), and James McGuinness (Jane), along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Billy McGuinness, his parents, James E. and Irene McGuinness, and his nephew, James McGuinness.
Brian will be remembered as a family man with a generous heart, always putting others first. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, all of whom will miss his generous heart, his creativity, and his unwavering love.
