Brian's obituary

Brian Royce Jewett, age 70 of Durham passed away peacefully  Oct 10th, 2023 at Androscoggin Hospice House. Brian was the eldest son of Royce and Greta Jewett. He was a brother to 7 siblings, the father to Malinda Jewett and Brian (Scotty) Jewett, a grandfather to Cameron, TJ, and Emily.

Brian grew up in Yarmouth and Pownal and attended schools in Yarmouth and Freeport. As a youth Brian was a gifted baseball player, participating in the Yarmouth Little League. It was a real family joy to watch him participate. He often played pickup games with the neighborhood kids off a homemade field on Thoits Rd in Yarmouth. In later years he enjoyed sharing these skills with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, throwing together a backyard game.

Brian was a very skilled carpenter, craftsman and worked on concrete foundations in his days.

Brian lived in Washington State for 15 years where he met Esther, his partner for 40 years. They returned to Maine and married on Oct 8th, 1983, on Bradbury Mountain.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting elk out west, fishing and craw-dadding. After returning to Maine, he continued the family tradition of hunting and fishing and shared the love of the outdoors with his family and friends as well as with his daughter, son, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The Jewett homestead in Pownal was a gathering place for Brian and his family and friends. There was not anyone excluded from hanging their game in the Jewett tree. It was a town monument for wardens, tourists and passersby to see how successful the hunts were. When family and friends celebrated the details and adventures of the hunt, these were some of the most enjoyable moments of Brian’s life.

When Brian's health declined, he was unable to participate in these hunting adventures. This is when we all gathered around the "round table" to share stories, and our own experiences. These times would most likely end up in a card game. Brian was a card shark, and he would often say "you better have a buck to lose".

On behalf of Brian, the family would like to sincerely thank you all for taking the time out of your day to make sure Brian was okay. Thank you for stopping in to visit with him. To everyone that made Brian's day easier, we thank you and greatly appreciate you, and he appreciated it too.

Brian was predeceased by his parents, Royce and Greta Jewett, his son Brian Scott Jewett; Brian's siblings Lorene, Royce Jr and Bradley Jewett.

He is survived by his daughter Malinda Jewett; his grandchildren Cameron Campbell and his wife Paige Campbell, TJ Morrill and his fiancé Emily Latulippe, and Emily Catlin; his siblings, Cynthia Slocum and husband Walter, Jeffrey Jewett and wife Jeanine, Daryl Jewett and wife Jennifer, Cheryl Meyer and husband Scott; his partner Esther Jewett and his sister-in-law Starr Noseworthy and his faithful companion Tripp; along with many nieces and nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held November 12, 2023, noon to 3pm at the Durham Amvets, 1049 Royalsborough Rd, Durham, ME 04222. Please come and join us and share the stories you have of Brian. Adult beverages can be purchased at the Amvets.
