I am just finding out about Brian.  Brian would usually call me once a year, in the fall, after he moved back to Wisconsin.  Always around deer hunting season.  This year I didn't get a call.  Today, I looked to get in touch with him and saw this notice.   I have no words to begin to even tell you how sorry I am.  Brian was my closest friend in the early 2000's era...we worked on a project together and would talk every day.  We finally met when he invited a few of us from our office to meet up with him and his buddies from KKE.  It was a Halloween party, and he was dressed as a pirate.  I was a Borg.  The next Monday, he would start my day, every day for how many years with " Borgie's thought for the day. "  Here was one that has stayed with me through the years:" What is inspiration? Is it like one of those unpredictable warm breezes on a cool fall day you never know where it's going to come from but it's great when it does arrive and even though the experience is fleeting the memory and impact tends to live on."  When he worked at Toma, I would get postcards from all over the world with notes of books he read or galleries that he had been to.  I love Susan  Tedeschi because of him.  I remember how excited he was to tell me that he met the Dalai Lama.  So many warm and wonderful memories.  His kindness, charisma, talent, thoughtfulness and intelligence go unmatched.  He was a gift to all who knew him, his memory and impact will live on.   Brian and Autumn, if you read this, he was so proud of you and talked about you all the time. All the crazy things he did with you. (Well at least if he wasn't talking about something art/photo/book/music related).  I missed him when he moved, but now I will miss him forever.  Godspeed my Friend

Being that this is so late, I'm not sure if I can leave a donation here, so I will donate to the Walker Minneapolis Sculpture Garden Fund.  I know that he worked with Frank Gehry at one time and it displays his "Standing Fish".

Brian was A very dear friend to my Grandaughter Mercedes she is totaly heartbroken upon hearing of his passing! They shared many good times together and it will be deeply missed A wonderful person who made a huge impact on her Life...My sympathy goes out to the entire family
Brian was a gentle soul that will be dearly missed. He always thought of others and was willing to help anyone in need. Loved you like a brother.

A note from Brian’s daughter, Autumn: While my dad lived a beautiful and fulfilling life, he also faced challenges with his mental health. It’s important to me that we fight the stigma of mental illness and suicide by acknowledging that, while my dad shared so much of himself with this world, there were many struggles he faced that he kept to himself. Sadly, those struggles overcame his beautiful spirit and he died by suicide. My heart aches that my dad was in a place where he felt that that was his only option. At the same time, I’m painfully aware that my dad belonged to a population with the highest suicide rates in the nation, with white males accounting for 26.4% of suicides in the U.S. each year. He struggled with depression, which is the leading cause of disability worldwide. We, as his family, were not blind to his struggles. Even with the love, concern, and resources Brian had access to, battling mental illness is a fight that he, like many others, was not able to overcome. If you or a loved one is struggling with mental health or thoughts of suicide, please know that your life matters and there are people who can and want to help you find a way through dark times. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached at any time by calling 988. The National Alliance on Mental Illness’ website (nami.org) is a good place to access supportive resources and education regarding mental health. A mental health resource guide for Wisconsinites can be found on NAMI Wisconsin’s website (namiwisconsin.org) You can find your local/nearest NAMI affiliate through searching on either of the websites shared.
