Brian's obituary

Brian Scott Bellows, age 61, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in his home in Citrus Heights, California. Brian was born on September 14, 1957 in St. Paul Minnesota to Francis and Joyce Bellows. The Bellows moved to California in 1962. A 1975 graduate of Del Campo High School, Brian made many lifelong friends who shared the same tenacity for life that he did. Brian then began his career in the construction industry. He started as a custom home builder, building houses from the ground up. Brian loved the freedoms allowed to him when building these homes, often having to make things work, or as he liked to call it, “MacGyver it,” to pass inspection or complete the job. Brian moved to commercial building where he worked for several construction companies running multi-million dollar jobs as a supervisor. During the economic collapse of 2008, Brian joined the Local 46 Carpenters Union and began working for Inmate Ward Labor (IWL) and then went on to work for the California Prison Industry Authority (CalPIA). Here he worked with inmates building and running projects up and down the state. These jobs allowed him the freedom to “MacGyver” and make things work, which was Brian at his best. His ability to communicate with and teach inmates the trade led to his position as a Carpenter Instructor for the female inmates at the Green Valley Training Center in Represa, California. The inmates often referred to Brian as fun, thoughtful, imaginative and patient while teaching them. Outside of work, Brian was a friend you could call when you needed help, or if you just wanted to have a good time. He brought the party everywhere he went, whether it was on a boat, in a garage, in another country or in his own living room. Brian made an everlasting impression on the people around him by passing around his knowledge and fun-loving demeanor. Just as he did on the custom houses, commercial buildings and state projects, Brian left a stamp on this world and in our hearts. Brian is survived by his wife, Audrey Ference; son, Dale Bellows; stepson Dominic Hugh; sisters, Janis Bellows and Lynne Hogue; and grandsons, Landen Ray, Colton Bellows and Bryson Bellows.
