Brett was one of my closest friends. We both went to Camp Tomahawk when we were kids. We remained great friends. When I was sick Brett contacted me every day checking up on me. Brett recently, unexpectedly died just short of his 50th birthday. I am still in shock and denial that he died. Brett was one of my most loyal friends. He was emotionally intelligent and had a heart of Gold. That was his last name. Brett always had my back in personal situations, and in my work and activism. Brett always tried to get others involved with Camp Excel and was on the Advisory Council since 1996. Brett helped GDS find a pro-bono lawyer when we were wrongfully evicted. He also got his Dad, a lawyer to help advise us. When noone else would speak up for the truth he would. There are not many friends like Brett who will put themselves on the line for you. Brett, I am beyond sad and I miss you so much. You always encouraged me to keep fighting and speak truth to power, no matter what. You are a great friend to me and I will hold our memories and your words of wisdom close to my heart and soul. 🙏

Mark and family,

My sincere condolences on the passing of your son and brother Brett.  May your memories of your special time together bring you comfort.

Roberta (Bertie)

Ross, Jesse, Alexis, Mark Gold & Family,

I only found out about Brett’s untimely passing this weekend, when I dropped by your old neighbor’s from down the street, the Zarwis, and I just wanted to say how shocked and sorry I was to hear of it.  While none of us were close, we all went to the same elementary, middle, and high school at one time or another, and I will always remember Brett driving his sleek, rumbling Saleen Mustang (which was the essence of cool at the time) when we were teenagers, and how he would never fail to indulge us underclassmen watching, whenever he’d see us twirl a finger in the air, upon which he would promptly rev that glorious V-8 engine, so that we could get a vicarious, aural kick out of it as well!

He didn’t have to do that of course, but he did, and I imagine it was probably enjoyable for both parties.    ;)

Anyway, just wanted to share what was an indelible memory for me of Brett, and to belatedly send my condolences and prayers to your family.  May so many others of his that you must have, warm and heal your hearts as you continue to grieve…

God Be With You, Michael Sorvino

Mark, Ross, Jesse, and Alexis; I have known Brett for as long as I have known your dad, 18 years. May you have the strength to get through it all.  Please accept my heartfelt sympathies and may his memory always be a blessing.
So sad to hear about Brett’s passing. Our deepest condolences to the family.

Brett Gold had a major impact on my life.  He accepted me when I was not the best example of what was good.  Brett became my friend when I had nothing to offer, and that it is rare in Middle School.  He was always my friend.   He spoke the truth.   I had many great adventures with Brett.  I will always cherish them.  My appreciation of classic rock can be attributed to Brett and his father.

The Gold family has always been good to me.   It’s unfortunate that we grew apart after High School.

Brett was a good friend and never turned his back on me when it would be convenient. he was real. He had character defects that he never showed me.   But he was always my friend.   He invited me to his world and in all honesty he motivated me more than most of friends.

Your son and brother made a tremendous impact on my life.  I will always cherish our friendship and what it ment to me.

May Brett’s memory be a blessing to all those who knew him.

I am crushed!! Brett was honest to the core. He would always say what he meant and meant what he said. He loved camp and we shared the same goals to be involved in camp again sometime in the future. RIP, my friend!
