Brendan's obituary
Brendan Alwyn Lawson was born on September 14th, 1965 at Mackenzie Hospital in Linden, Guyana to Frank Fitz Albert Lawson (father)(dec.) and Hyacinth Lawson (December) (mother). Brendan had the sweetest personality, attracting the love of many friends with his humor and charisma. In his youth, Brendan had an affinity for food and cooking; there was a direct connection between his stomach and his heart. His cousins nicknamed him ‘Carrot Top’ after his Ginger hair color during adolescence. He was also fondly known as ‘Beetle’ for the way he ran and ‘Brad’ for the way he expressed his love of bread as a child. He attended MacKenzie Primary & Secondary schools. Brendan enjoyed making his friends laugh & boxing, taking after his older brother Tony (Frank Anthony). Brendan’s first job was at Lin Mine Farm where he worked as a Junior Assistant.
With the help of his father & brother Tony, Brendan migrated to the United States in January of 1987 and resided in New Jersey. Later the same year, he began working at Speadmark, Inc. in Secaucus, NJ and stayed with the company, now Macy’s, until his passing nearly 40 years later. His hardworking nature and interpersonal skills propelled him into the position of elected Union Representative. In this role, Brendan negotiated contracts on behalf of his fellow Union members and advocated for their rights exemplifying his care for others.
Brendan adored his children, Brendan-Quintin, Kristin, Chayanne, and Jada whom he shared with his ex-wife Donna & estranged wife Melissa. He shares fond memories with both and remained close friends with Melissa up until his passing. He met his common law partner Libertad McGady, who he affectionately called “His Libby”, years ago. The two met at work and spent several loving years together in their home in Newark with her children Natalie & Ybri. Brendan was exceptionally social and enjoyed spending his free time hanging out with friends and family. He also enjoyed listening to Neil Diamond and The Beach Boys, horse racing, and learning about the latest scientific discoveries.
After many years battling cancer, Brendan passed away surrounded by loved ones at Hackensack Meridian Health Center on Monday, March 24th, 2025 at the age of 59.
