Mrs Fennel, I was thinking of Brenda before going on Facebook to find her and read that she had passed. It sadden me to see this.
The last time I saw Brenda was about 20 years ago when I was a Howard University faculty member and the faculty was walking onto the yard for the graduation. She waived at me from her location and I waived back.
Brenda was a childhood friend when her family lived on Kansas Avenue in northwest Washington DC. We met in the third grade at Park View Elementary School. Mrs Denny and my mom became friends and there were many childhood sleepovers. I recall Brenda receiving many compliments on her lovely green eyes. One cherished childhood memory was of us jumping into raked🍁🍂🍁in the curbside space on her block where stood many majestic oat and elm 🌳 🌳.
My friend lived a beautiful life of purpose and grace. I am blessed to have known her. Many blessings to you and your family. If you would like to chat sometime, my 📱is: 1-202-492-5883.

Mrs. Stroud was my high school art teacher at King- she was so encouraging and let me have a safe space in her art room. I'm now a full-time artist, and I contribute her encouragement/teachings to that- she was the first to tell me it was even possible and that I should consider studying it seriously. I looked her up just now to see if I could reach out to her and found this obituary- so here, I'll say- thank you, Mrs.Stroud.

I love and miss Aunt Brenda everyday. She left me with such sweet, precious memories. She taught me to play, ‘rock, paper, scissors’ as a child and would later play the game with my daughter. Her infectious laughter, sense of humor and artistic excellence were her trademarks. She and my mother, her first cousin, will live on forever. Love and miss them both. Everyday.

When Brenda and family moved down the street from my family, in Detroit, we immediately became friends. Our children played together.
I have a beautiful piece of metal sculpture to remember her and her talents.

My heart felt sympathies to Brenda's loved ones, family and friends. She had her studio in The Collective for many years where we shared jokes, laughs, sympathies when my sister passed, stories of growing up and now as "old ladies"... She was an excellent artist and I'm happy to say I have her works in our collection.
