Brenda's obituary
Brenda LaRae Schultz was born on July 30, 1966 in Sheldon, IA, to Delbert and Marlene Schultz. She spent her childhood on her parents’ farm near May City and graduated from Hartley Melvin High School in 1984.
She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA, then moved to the Iowa Great Lakes area, where she worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for over 30 years.
Brenda had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She played on a darts league in her earlier years and never said no to a board game—though anyone who played Scrabble with her probably wished she would have. She was an avid reader with a vocabulary that was unmatched.
She always said that her kids were the light of her life. She attended every school and sporting event she could and loved taking them on family vacations, sometimes deciding day-of to take a weekend road trip to Sioux Falls or Minneapolis.
After retiring, Brenda moved to Council Bluffs, IA, to be closer to her daughter. She passed away suddenly in her home on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Brenda is survived by her children, April Welle of Omaha, NE, and Nyx Welle of Los Angeles, CA; and her sisters, DeAnn Schultz of Creston, IA, and Denise Anderson of May City, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Marlene Schultz.
