Brenda's obituary

Brenda Joyce Layman

1959 - 2022

Brenda Joyce Layman, 62, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022.

Brenda was born on March 19, 1959, in Ft. Worth, Texas, the daughter of William R. and Bobbie Davis. Brenda graduated from East Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1977 where she was a member of the Pep Club, performed in plays and musicals, and won state awards in the choir. After high school, Brenda attended Harding University where she became president of her social club, Ka Re Ta. She also attended Oklahoma Christian University, where she met the love of her life, Tim Layman. They married on March 30, 1984. They enjoyed nearly 38 wonderful years together. They were blessed with three children, Chase in 1985, Paige in 1988, and Sean in 1990. Her children were her greatest blessings. She was endlessly proud of them and who they became as adults. Brenda’s grandchildren brought her years of pure happiness. She loved spending time with them, coloring, dancing, singing, and telling them stories. They were her pride and joy.

Brenda had many jobs throughout her life. She loved being a postwoman and getting to drive the rural route. She also loved any job where she could work with children. Her hardest but the most rewarding job was working at the Southern Christian Children’s Home in Morrilton, Arkansas, and the Fair Haven Children’s Home in Strafford, Missouri as a foster parent.

In her spare time, Brenda loved reading, sending coloring pages to her grandchildren, driving around the countryside listening to music, talking to her children and grandchildren on the phone, and being out in nature admiring God’s beautiful creation.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Timothy Layman, her son and daughter-in-love, Chase and Deanna Layman, her daughter and son-in-love, Paige and Jacob Bailey, and her son and daughter-in-love, Sean and Alyssa Layman. Her five, soon-to-be six grandchildren, Eli, Mason, Jocelyn, Ephraim, Eila, and Alden (due in July), and the many foster children she loved and cared for as her own. Her brother and sister-in-love, Brad and Carol Davis and their children and grandchildren, her brother and sister-in-love, Bryan and Tama Davis and their children and grandchildren. Her sister-in-love and brother-in-love, Karen and Keith Morris and their children, and her father-in-love, Leroy Layman.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Bobbie Davis, and her mother-in-love, Patricia Layman.
