Brenda's obituary

Brenda Mitchell, born September 27, 1961, passed peacefully on September 22, 2025. Brenda was a beacon of strength and intelligence, always living her life with great zest and generosity. Her loving nature towards her family and community was always evident and respected.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Danielle Mitchell and Brittney Nesbitt; her son, Jason Nesbitt; and her grandchildren, Destiny, Teyonce, Taylor and Tyler Mitchell. Brenda was predeceased by her beloved parents, Leona and Angus Jones, her dear sister, Jaime Jones, and her cherished husband, David Nesbitt. Her surviving sister, Rosa Lee Mitchell, continues to hold dear the memories they shared.

A memorial service to celebrate Brenda's life will be held on her birthday, September 27, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Luke Memorial Mortuary/Funeral Home in Humble and Kingwood, Texas.

Brenda was a proud graduate of LaGrange High School and achieved a B.A in Business from McNeese State University. In 1982, she entered into a loving marriage with David Nesbitt. Brenda's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a dedicated attendee at Watersedge Church and a committed volunteer at Humble Area Assistance Ministries. Brenda also cherished her time at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

She had a deep love for the vibrant colors and culture of Aruba & Cozumel, Mexico, which were her favorite vacation spots. Brenda had a penchant for the color purple, a reflection of her royal spirit. Culinary delights such as Gumbo and seafood pasta were her favorite foods, and she enjoyed sipping on Pina Coladas. Brenda found joy in watching 'The Young and the Reckless,' and celebrated the artistry of Aretha Franklin. She was a dedicated supporter of The Cowboys, and loved engaging in games of Scrabble and Yahtzee. Performance was a beloved hobby of hers, often delighting in cooking, baking, and karaoke.

Brenda was an accomplished woman. She broke barriers as the first black cashier in Lake County and had a successful 30-year career with the Lake County School System. She also served as a leader in her church. Brenda's legacy is one of perseverance, dedication, and faith, showing others that through hard work and a positive attitude, any challenge can be overcome.

Brenda's vibrant personality, love for people, and unwavering faith made her a beloved matriarch. Her stories, laughter, and spirited nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Brenda remains a symbol of courage, resilience, and love, whose memory will be with us always.
