There is still an empty place in my life 5 years after we lost Brenda. She was gone too soon. 🩷

I still don't want to think that I lost such a special friend. Brenda's support in my life was given freely and with never ending smiles.  I can still hear her giggle in the office next to mine when we were working for MESA, and  I will always have a special place in my heart for Brenda.

I was streaming the All Souls Day mass at Our Lady of the Lake and was shocked when Brenda’s name was on the list of parishioners who had passed away this year

I’ve struggled to find what I wanted to say about Brenda. The one thing I keep coming back to is that no one was better at scheming up some wild crazy practical joke.
I met Brenda when I first started working at Whitman in the attendance office. Brenda was one of the teachers at the school. She was good friends of Rae Hanashiro and Elaine Akagi (now dec'd) - I believe both special education teachers. Being I was new the building and didn't know many people on the staff, Brenda and her friends made a special effort to welcome me to the school. I was the Asst.Secretary/Attendance person. It was a hectic and challenging job, which gave me very little time to socialize with anyone --more than an eight hour job with all the constant interruptions, etc. Brenda left Whitman shortly thereafter, so I did not really get to know her as much as I would have like to; however, I remember her as being very kind and
trying to make me feel welcome Whitman.
In response to "How did you first meet Brenda?"
Remember Brenda when I first started working at Whitman Middle School. Being new to the school Brenda was always very friendly toward me, which I appreciated very much. Getting used of the work styles in a new building can be very challenging, and I for one am always appreciative of emotional support and friendship.
I met Brenda when she was still teaching. She was recommended to me as a potential curriculum developer for MESA (Math, Engineering and Science Achievement) program. Brenda was a passionate advocate of equity in science education and became indispensable to MESA in both K-12 and Community College MESA. She became a dear friend and we enjoyed so many adventures! She was sunny and ready to go at any time. Educational retreats, weekend drives just to see the scenery, trying out new breakfast places, potlucks with our MESA family --- . Brenda shared her home with me for 3 months while I was house hunting, I stayed with her after a couple of her surgeries so she would not be alone at night. There are so many memories that still bring tears to my eyes, but I know that they will sustain me in love for a dear friend. I miss her deeply.
The last time I visited Brenda while she was packing to move to California. She was sorry that she was going to leave her friends and especially her hula family in Seattle. But she was happy to be moving to be with family and especially getting more time with her grandkids.
In response to "When was the last time you spent time with Brenda?"
I knew Brenda just the past few years through Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Seattle, and work on the Justice and Peace Committee. I was always impressed with her quiet passion to make this world a better place. She was like a Wisdom Figure for us on the committee! I never knew, until I read her obituary, that she graduated from Holy Names Academy. I'm grateful that our paths crossed. Sister Linda Riggers, snjm
I will miss sharing laughter and singing CampFire songs with her
Her Seattle sisters greatly missed her when she moved down to California. But, we are glad that she had the time to connect with her family. Thank you for loaning her to us for so many great hula moments.
Brenda was a role model for so many, in a variety of situations. She was feisty and assertive in the face of adversity - she led by example. I am so fortunate to have had Brenda in my life - I will miss our conversations, laughter and friendship.

A hui hou, Brenda.
A very sweet soul whom I met afew times. wonderful person , just sweet to her soul and mother in law to my son Zak . Meda, her daughter has the same kind of compassion, lovingness and calm spirit as her mother did. Brenda is truly exempalthy of the kind of people we need in this world.
