Brenda's obituary

On March 24, 2026, our beloved Brenda Sue Holman Harris passed away after a prolonged illness. Brenda was born at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas. From infancy and throughout her childhood, Brenda spent a lot of time as a patient at the Shriner's Hospital in Houston. When she was three, the family moved to Cedar Creek, Texas and have remained there ever since. During High School, Brenda was very active in the arts, especially the theater and one-act plays. After graduating from Bastrop High School, she attended the University of Texas and Texas Tech, majoring in Art. For many summers, she performed at the Bastrop Opera House in many plays and musicals. Brenda also loved music, spending many nights listening to live music with her friends in Austin.

Brenda was passionate about her art; painting, drawing, and creating original and beautiful works. She loved dragonflies, bright colors, and beautiful wild flowers, just like her grandmother, Evelyn. She loved animals and caring for any creature that needed her help. She did commissioned artworks such as murals and pet portraiture. Even though she had many struggles of her own, she never wavered in offering a helping hand or encouragement to whoever needed it. She even worked as an addiction counselor and a counselor to adults with special needs. She wrote many beautiful essays and musings on life that offer encouragement and advice on getting through adversity. She had a wicked sense of humor and was clearly one of the funniest people we ever knew.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Matthew Harris, step-daughters Casey Chalmers and Sherri-Dawn Harris, and granddaughter Hailey Marburger. She is also survived by her mother, Karen Holman, her sisters, Michelle Holman Dowell and husband Richard Dowell, and Tonia Holman Bui. Her nephews and nieces include Ashley Dowell, Aspen Dowell, Gabriel Dowell, Brooke Bui, and great niece, Eden Sage Dowell.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on her birthday, May 2, 2026 at Point Community Church in South Austin, 11300 Old San Antonio Rd, Manchaca, TX 78652, from 2-4pm.
