Brenda's obituary
Brenda graduated Southwest Missouri State University and attended several other schools, earning a Bachelor’s degree in communications from University of Central Oklahoma. Brenda’s passion was journalism and she was a radio/print journalist for many years in Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma. She reported for several local newspapers in central Oklahoma, including Yukon, Chickasha, Del City, and Harrah. In spare time, Brenda was an avid reader, writer, and photographer, and also loved to travel, sing, and watch Netflix with her husband.
Brenda was a woman of faith, and also passionate for social justice. Despite health issues, she championed many causes. These included jail reform, Common Cause, chronic pain awareness, and campaign finance reform, even meeting US Senator John McCain when she was director of Oklahomans for Campaign Finance Reform. She married Don Moore in 1981, with whom she had two beloved daughters. She and Don divorced in 1998. She wed James Finch in 2003, and the two were married until her death.
Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Paul Childress. She is survived by her husband; her daughters, Megan Moore of Bremerton, Washington and Marjori Palacios of Yukon, Oklahoma; a grandson, Nate Palacios of Yukon, Oklahoma; a son-in-law, Jose Palacios of Yukon, Oklahoma; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Finch of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and several cousins out-of-state.
Services will be graveside at Elmwood Cemetery (1800 N. Choctaw Rd.) in Choctaw, Oklahoma at 11:00 am on Friday, April 5, 2019. In lieu of flowers, financial donations may be made in Brenda’s name to any organization that supports chronic pain awareness and research.
