Brenda's obituary

Brenda Lee Capps, 53, of Brooklyn, CT, died tragically from a drug overdose on March 18, 2021.
She was a grandmother, a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a friend to many. She will be sorrowfully missed.

Brenda led a traumatic life right from childhood, paving the way for party days and drug abuse. She experienced heavy loss and death as an adult, and her escape from the pain was always drugs. She suffered with depression and other mental illnesses. But for those who truly knew and saw her, Brenda was far more than her struggle with drugs.

She was a creative, quirky, strong, caring woman, who tried her best to care for her parents (in sickness and old age) and be a mom to her two girls. She spent time in and out of rehabs, and there were times in her life where she lived beautifully, fully and sober. Her family has those memories to cherish forever.

Her pain was just too big for this world.
May we remember her for the laughter and love that she brought into it before she left us.
May we honor her memory by showing love and compassion to others who are suffering. You never know what someone has endured, you never know where they have been. We all deserve help. We all deserve love.

Brenda's family will be having an informal cremation burial at Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday, April 3, at 11a.m.

What is Remembered Lives

You have come to the end of just one journey
Now, on a path to which we bear witness.
You have taken what you could of the material
In spirit, perhaps you’ll know much more sweetness.
May the realms open their arms lovingly,
And hold you closely before you move on.
Here, we will maintain your memory…
So that you and the ancestors know that you are loved.
Here, among and alongside of us,
What is remembered lives…
We will hold out our hands and raise up our arms,
In spirit of elevation, and work to forgive.
You’ll walk among the rosemary and primrose,
Until you share space with the wise ones.
Recent dead, traveler, go make peace in the lands of the ancestors.
Knowing you are loved.
We will sing and we will dance, we will mourn and we will drum…
Go on, sweet one, as we honor you, go on, you are beloved.
What is remembered lives, as we stand back and bear witness…
You are not forgotten, this is not “goodbye”.
We will raise our hands and our hearts and our voices in elevation,
In sorrow, in reverence, in celebration.
Tomorrow, and all of the days thereafter.
Sending music from our sad hearts, to the land of the vibrant ones,
Petitioning their blessings and open arms…
Let them hold you, dear one, let them hold you…
We will be here, bearing witness.
What is remembered lives, here, and in the spirit of forgiveness
