Bren's obituary

Bren William Dietrich, age 52 of Mount Dora, Florida passed away after a long battle with illness on February 8, 2023. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He was born October 11, 1970, the son of William Thomas Dietrich and Mary Jeanne Dietrich, and grew up in rural Central Illinois with his brother, Adam Thomas Dietrich. Bren graduated from Bergan High School in Peoria, Illinois in 1988 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. He spent seven months overseas during the 1991 Gulf War in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. After being honorably discharged, he enrolled in finance studies at Northern Illinois University. He passed the C.P.A. exam in 1995 with a ranking in its top 1%, and was soon employed with public accounting firms in Chicago followed by working for Caterpillar. He then moved to Florida, went to work for the Turnpike, and rose to become its Chief Financial Officer. He made many friends at the Turnpike and enjoyed his time working there until chronic illness forced his retirement in 2021.

In the later years of his life, Bren sought many forms of treatment for his debilitating condition, including participating in studies with the Veterans Administration for those afflicted with Gulf War Illness symptoms. Despite what he endured, Bren was very kind to others and went out of his way to ensure they were not burdened by his troubles. He was a considerate and compassionate man who freely helped those in need. He departed his family leaving fond memories of his good nature, kindness, and appreciation for life while striving through adversity.
