Brad's obituary

Bradley "Brad" William Woods, September 11, 1970 - November 25, 2021

51, of Lee's Summit, MO, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day at 4:30 pm. He was surrounded by his loving family and battled with courage and humor against Stage 4 Colon Cancer for over 3 years.

Brad was born on September 11, 1970 to Joe and Anita Woods in Lexington, KY. He lived in Boulder, CO from age 10 until he graduated from Boulder High in 1988. He always loved the mountains, skiing, and fishing. Brad attended and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1992 with a degree in Communications. While at KU he met his girlfriend, Kim Brown, they dated for 6 years before marrying on July 29, 1995 in Mission, KS.

Before he started his career, he enjoyed a year of skiing and working in Vail, CO with his high school friends, Blake Wise and Dave Weiss. Brad's first career was in management at Enterprise in Kansas City; then he became a Mortgage Loan Officer in 2001 and worked for a few local banks throughout his 20 years in the mortgage business. He was able to continue working with BNC National Bank, from home, up to the last few days. He left a big impression on each organization and remained friends with co-workers long after they had moved on. The luckiest ones became his best friends for life.

Brad and Kim welcomed their son Carter William in 1999, Whitney Jane in 2001 and Russell Spencer in 2006. The family enjoyed many busy years running the kids to their sports and dance activities. Brad was quick to help out the baseball coaches along the way to run the gamechanger app, plan the schedules, and book the tournaments. He earned the nickname "Wiki" because he knew all about the other teams in the tournaments and loved the strategy of the game. Brad was also nicknamed "Rooster" by the dance moms because he enjoyed planning the group dance trips and made sure the ladies were fed well, on time, and was navigator throughout the trips. He was so proud of his children in all that they did. He was thankful he got to see Carter graduate from KU, Whitney thrive in all of her leadership positions and academics at KU and loved Russell's first Varsity Soccer season at Blue Springs South High School and his many years of soccer at KCSG. Brad was proud of being close to God and trusting his plan for himself and his family.

Brad is survived by his wife of 26 years Kim (Brown) Woods, son Carter William Woods, daughter Whitney Jane Woods, son Russell Spencer Woods, mother, Anita Wright Woods and father, Joe William Woods of Lexington, KY, sister, Paula Jean Stears and nephew Blake Stears of Seabrook, TX. He is preceded in death by their first baby boy, Tyler, and brother-in-law, Brien Stears, many aunts and uncles and numerous beloved family members.

In lieu of flowers, we will be investing donations honoring Brad into Carter, Whitney, and Russell's educational funds.
