Bradley's obituary
Bradley Russell McKinney, Captain, USN (retired), passed away peacefully in Tarpon Springs, Florida on November 12, 2021.
Brad was born July 17, 1961. As a third generation of McKinney’s serving over thirty years each in the U.S. Navy, he followed in his father’s footsteps, joining the Navy in 1985, graduating from Officer Candidate School in 1986. His first tour, served as JO aboard the Destroyer Stump, Norfolk, Virginia. Brad graduated from Navy Diving School, then Navy EOD school in 1991. A full spectrum of demanding and exciting assignments in EOD and Special Forces communities, included EOD missions in Namibia while Operations Officer at EODMU-8 and plank owner to Fort Brag J3 SP Unit. After 9/11, Brad served as Commanding Officer of EODMU-2 in Iraq where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic action and outstanding leadership under combat conditions.
Brad is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Whitaker McKinney (Florida); his son Alexander McKinney (North Carolina) and daughter Lauren McKinney (Georgia); his stepson Cade Whitaker (Florida); his father, James McKinney Captain, retired USN (Florida); his brother Michael (Florida); his former spouse, Tonya McKinney (North Carolina), half-sister Amanda (Florida) and an abundance of colleagues and loving friends from around the world.
