Bonnie's obituary
Bonnie LaVonne Stone was born to Buell “Stoney” Stone and his wife Bonnie on Valentine’s Day in 1957. She began her life at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, CA, and made San Diego her lifelong home.
Bonnie spent her early years at her parents’ grocery store, Stoney’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Market in El Cajon, CA. She loved to dance and perform and capped off her pageant career as Miss Teen San Diego.
Bonnie was a proud member of Granite Hills High School’s 1975 graduating class. In 1983, she married Ray E. Davis and was overjoyed to welcome their son Jarryd to the world in 1985. Bonnie combined the entrepreneurial spirit she inherited from her parents and her love of children to open and operate her daycare center, Bonnie’s Babies. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader for many years.
When she wasn’t running her business or volunteering, Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her best girlfriends, dubbed the Blameless Beauties. The Beauties fostered their unshakable bond with trips to Palm Springs, spa days and concerts to see their favorite musical acts—especially Rod Stewart.
Bonnie spent the latter decade of her career running the Salvation Army’s back country services, connecting rural San Diegans with essentials like food, clothing and household goods. She served as a board member of Stoney’s Kids and spent each Christmas running the East County Toy and Food Drive.
Later in life, Bonnie reconnected with her high-school friend Craig Briley and together they found an abiding partnership. They shared a love of animals and spent time bird watching, deep-sea fishing and spoiling Bonnie’s pet beagles.
Bonnie’s life was marked by her compassion and sense of service. Whether it was a home-cooked meal or a listening ear, Bonnie took every opportunity to care for her family, friends and community. She was a deeply spiritual person who found comfort in Jesus’s love and the teachings of many faith traditions.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her partner Craig, sister Michelle Irene Smith and parents Stoney and Bonnie. She is survived by her son Jarryd Davis; half-brother Greg Stone; half-sister Susan Leon; sister Tina Kelly; nephews Brandon, Broc and Preston; niece Britney; and beloved beagle Daisy.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 22, from 1 – 3 pm at Summers Past Farm in El Cajon. In lieu of flowers, please donate to California Beagle Rescue.
