Bonnie's obituary

Bonnie Mann (formerly Wellman, formerly Luce), 75, of Fultondale, AL,(formerly New Milford, PA) passed away August 11, 2025. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Luce, her sister, Deborah Stevens, her son Morris Mann IV, and her grandson, Stephen Sternberg. She is survived by her husband, Morris Mann III, daughters Lisa Sternberg, Lori Spradlin (Von), Leigh Homler (Scott), Catherine Valladares (Reynel), and son Jonathan Mann. Brothers John Luce, Jr. and Richard Luce, sisters Patricia Breason, Frances Gregory, Rosemary Chase, Jennifer Rice, as well as many nieces, nephews,  grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a multitude of “adopted” children and grandchildren.

Bonnie was a fiercely independent and deeply caring woman whose presence shaped so many lives. She was an avid gardener, baker, canner, and thrift shopper with an impressive collection of kitchen gadgets. Before her illness, she was always on the move, never one to sit still for long. She was remarkably capable, able to tackle tasks that many might leave to others, from DIY home projects, performing car repairs, operating power tools, and handling a rototiller with ease.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother, not just to her own family, but to their friends as well, who fondly called her “Mom” or “Grandma.” Her bond with her great-grandchildren was particularly special, especially with Gianna, who would bypass everyone in the house to head straight for her “Maca’s” room.

Life knocked her down many times, yet she always got back up and went on with her business. She embraced life fully, never afraid to try something new, from zip lining in Nicaragua to swimming with sharks, though roller coasters were never her thing. She had a way of taking care of everyone, making each person feel genuinely seen and cared for.

Even through these last difficult years, she remained her fiery self. She greeted every medical provider with a smile and a cheerful “hi,” and was still flirting with a handsome respiratory therapist minutes before she passed. Her departure came swiftly and unexpectedly, surrounded by all four of her daughters and two of her grandchildren. Afterward, the family gathered together, spending precious time with her before saying our final goodbyes.

She was, at her core, kind, generous, and strong. She embraced life fully, loved deeply, and left a lasting imprint on every heart she touched. We will honor her by carrying her spirit forward, forever inspired by her resilience, warmth, and unwavering love.

The family will have a private celebration of life at a later time.  Friends wishing to honor her may send cards and letters to the family at P.O. Box 118, Gardendale, AL 35071.
