Bonnie's obituary

Bonnie Glenn went in the light of the Lord peacefully to her Heavenly home on Thursday, May 30, 2024. At age 80, she lost her battle to Alzheimer’s after eight long years. She passed away peacefully at Pacific Vista Senior Living in Riverside, CA, on Thursday, May 30, 2024. She is now in Heaven with her Savior Jesus, where she is dancing in the streets of gold!

Bonnie was born October 13, 1943 to Joel Lee Glenn and Cecilia Dolores Glenn in Ventura, CA. She was the second-oldest of her four siblings: sisters, Marilyn Kiel, Virginia (Keith) Lowe, Cathy (Steve) Evans, and brother, Thomas (Lois) Glenn. She also had many other adopted foster step-siblings throughout the years, thanks to the compassion and generosity of her parents.

After growing up and graduating high school in Ventura, she attended Pepperdine University for one year as a pre-med major. Shortly after, she moved to Romney, WV and raised her 3 children while working for United Airlines as a flight attendant. A short time later when her children were still very young, she took an opportunity to live in Seoul, Korea for a few years. Upon returning to the States, she lived in El Cajon, CA, as well as Moline, IL, and eventually made it back to El Cajon, where she spent the majority of the rest of her life.

In El Cajon, she started her own company in the late 1970’s, and eventually became a very successful business owner of her own medical transcription company. Her business flourished and she became in high demand among a large number of doctors, psychiatrists, and chiropractors in the San Diego area.

She was a long-standing member of The First Presbyterian Church of El Cajon, CA, since the late 1970’s. Her true passion and devotion in life was to Jesus, and helping others. Eventually, she found her calling was to work in the church office. She also served on the Session as an Elder, as well as a Deacon supporting the needs of the community. Later in life, while still working for the church, she spent her days visiting elderly shut-ins: bringing them food, reading with them, caring for them, and simply just talking with those who were lonely and needed a friend. She used to always say she never felt like she was actually working because she loved what she did!

Her compassion was felt by everyone who knew her. She was filled with selflessness, thoughtfulness, and always put the needs of others before herself. She went out of her way to donate, and would make annual trips down to Mexico to provide for those less fortunate. She also loved animals and always enjoyed caring for many dogs and cats throughout her entire life.

In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, Bible study, volunteering, cooking, baking, hiking and gardening. She definitely had a green thumb for growing food, and could also make anything bloom! On holidays, she loved baking and sharing her Grandma Josie’s persimmon pudding with lemon sauce recipe. She also loved being a very active Grandma to her grandchildren, whom she was always doting over and spoiling! And she loved a good cup of Starbucks coffee!  Her favorite order was a hot Venti decaf cappuccino with hazelnut … and she always drank her hot coffee with a straw!

Her generosity, warm hugs, compassion and her beautiful smile will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her!

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Lodge Christian Retreat Center on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:00am in the prayer chapel, 24680 CA-108, Mi-Wuk Village, CA 95346.

Bonnie is survived by her three children: sons Chris (Sue) Andree’, and Andy (Shelley) Simmons, and her daughter, Michelle (Mike) Spoon; 10 grandchildren, Noelle (Parvin Barker) Andree’, Christina (Christopher) Jones, Joseph (Courtney) Andree’, Jessica (Daniel) Pfeifler, Collette (Andrew) Welch, Kellie (Brandon) Courtney, Garett Weathers, Autum Weathers, Allison Spoon and Carter Spoon; nine great-grandchildren, Parvin Barker Jr., Riley Barker, Kal-El Jones, Delainey Andree’, Camden Andree’, Ellen Pfiefler, Elizabeth Welch, Evelyn Courtney, and Oliver Courtney, as well as a host of other family members and friends.
