Gratitude
for Bonita
Your laughter always
cracked me up; & when
coupled with one of the
precious tales you, at
times of highly spirited
reflection, shared, I was
mesmerized by your joy &
the honesty of your telling.
Rides with the ol’ boys on
Louisiana backroads now
come back to me, with
you driving them — your
vision scarcely clearing the
dashboard; & the scene you
conjured up as Johnny, at his
loving best, hoisted you over
his shoulder, arms flailing,
then paraded the two of
you before God every
ski bum in Aspen; not
to forget the numerous
times you went next door
to your Mom's apartment,
only to have her say, "I’m
still here!" So many truly
uproarous laughs I was
privy to, thanx to the
generosity of the ever-
present good humor you
showed me & the world at
large; surely, to those who
knew the real you & loved
you dearly for the darlin’
gal you truly were. My
words will never say
enough, cannot impart
my gratitude fully, for all
the laughter & kindnesses
you’ve bequeathed me, as
I ponder my life with you
having left behind such
priceless memories; I
just wish I’d gone first
— I can imagine the old
stories you’d tell of me;
best of all, you’d still be
around, & untold lives
would be so rich for
Bonita's presence
here & now ...
