Bobby's obituary
Bobby Gene Whiteley
Born Feb 2, 1937 in Wichita Falls to Clarence Denver & Gladys Whiteley. Lived here most of his life = never gone for long.
He met Judy Pettett in 1958, officially making her a Texan when they married 1959. They welcomed a son, Bobby, in 1960, and a daughter, Mary in 1964.
Bob worked for the City of Wichita Falls for 35 years, retiring as a supervisor for the Parks & Recreation Dept. He never missed a single day of work ‘sick’ and is 2nd only to his brother, Dee, the top record holder, who retired after 38 years while never missing a day of work.
Bob, or Gene - depending on who was talking to him, was also a jack of all trades. He could repair just about any issue w/a car = before the ‘computer’ era & worked on cars w/Bobby & most of his friends throughout the years.
Bob was also a gifted craftsman. After the ‘ 79 tornado, he built on to their home making it nearly triple the original size. He welded a beautiful fireplace topper for the brick fireplace he built, as well as building or remodeling many other pieces of furniture.
Sports were big in the Whiteley household. Bob enjoyed watching his kids play and never missed a baseball, football or softball game for either Bobby or Mary, often helping out with coaching duties. He was a ‘2nd Dad’ to many of the kids friends who spent as much time w/Bob & Judy as their own home! He enjoyed playing games at home and would say he never cheated to win; instead he was just very defensively creative! His very favorite pastime was casino trips! For many years, he & Judy traveled multiple times per year to Las Vegas. In recent years, they stayed closer to home but he was just as happy winning right across the Red River - and he always won!
Proceeding him to his forever Heavenly home were his Father, Clarence, Mom Gladys, Sister Irene, Brother Jack Dee, Brothers in Law Pete Trout, Rayme Westefer and Pat Westefer, Mother & Father in law Mary & Raymond Westefer, as well as countless friends and other family members.
Left to forever cherish memories of life with “Dad” is his wife of 66 years, Judy, son & daughter in law, Bobby & Christy Whiteley, daughter & son in law, Mary & Allen McCollum, grandchildren Dustin & Merredith Whiteley, Luken McCollum, great-grandchildren Reagan & Gavin Whiteley and nephew Johnny Trout, niece Sandy Trout; brother in law Jerry & Connie Westefer, nephews Jerry, Jr, Ken, and Tony Westefer, Christian Westefer.
