Bobby's obituary

Bobby Jay Sherrard passed from this life on April 9, 2026, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, with family by his side.

Jay was born on August 28, 1940, in Odessa, Texas, to Bob and Elnora Sherrard. He was their only child. The family later moved to Andrews, where Jay spent his formative years. A natural athlete, he developed a lifelong love of sports, participating in football, baseball, and basketball. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1958.

Jay continued his education at Lubbock Christian College, then a junior college, where he played basketball for the Pioneers during the program’s second and third seasons. He later attended Eastern New Mexico University, where he also played basketball and earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1963.

On August 10, 1963, Jay married the love of his life, Glynda Fay Alsobrook of Andrews. They shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. That same year, they began their teaching careers in Roswell, New Mexico. Jay went on to earn his Master’s degree in Administration from Eastern New Mexico University. He served as an assistant principal at Berrendo Middle School and later as principal of El Capitan Elementary. During their years in Roswell, Jay was also a devoted elder at South Main Church of Christ.

After 30 years in Roswell, Jay and Glynda retired and moved to Midland to be closer to his mother. Never one to stay idle, Jay continued serving others by teaching physical education at an elementary school for five more years. They were active members of Golf Course Road Church of Christ, where Jay again served as an elder.

In 2001, following the birth of their first grandchild, they made their home in Lubbock. Jay faithfully served as an elder at Monterey Church of Christ from 2006 to 2012, continuing his lifelong commitment to faith and community.

Jay is survived by his beloved wife, Glynda Sherrard; his sons, Bobby and wife Kristi Sherrard of Lubbock, and Rodney and wife Vikke Sherrard of Scottsdale, Arizona. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Hannah Lynch and husband Kaden of Lubbock; Jake Sherrard of Lubbock; Jaycee Sherrard of Lubbock; and Lola Sherrard of Scottsdale, Arizona; and one great-granddaughter, Monroe Mae Lynch of Lubbock. He is further survived by his cousins: Frank and Judy Price of Dallas, Steve and Vicki Price of Georgetown, and Tana and Roger Barnes of Andrews and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Elnora Sherrard.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home, 1356 NM Hwy 236, Portales, NM 88130.

A memorial service will be held on April 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Monterey Church of Christ, with Kyle Jackson officiating.
