Bobby's obituary
Bobby Dale Schmidt, 73, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026. He was born on January 2, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas, to Robert and Frances Schmidt.
Bobby lived a life marked by dedication, service, and deep connection to his community. He worked for the Texas Department of Health for more than 30 years and remained actively involved with the Texas Public Health Association even after his retirement. A devoted member of St. Richard’s Episcopal Church in Round Rock, Bobby served on the Vestry, was a Lay Reader and Eucharistic Minister, and took great joy in bringing people together—often through the church barbecue team, “The Pit Crew.”
Above all, Bobby was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He shared 40 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Kathy Schmidt. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Christine Jakubik (husband Dusty) and Jessica Willis (husband Cory), and a proud and doting grandfather to Maxwell Jakubik, Leland Jakubik, Cole Willis, Lilian Jakubik, and Luke Willis. His family will forever cherish his unconditional love, humor, and passion for music.
Bobby had a wide range of interests and passions. He loved playing music with friends, a pastime that brought him great joy throughout his life. Sports were also an important part of his life—he played baseball, football, and bowled in his younger years, and later found immense happiness cheering on his grandchildren at their events. Bobby treasured time spent with friends and family and was always looking for reasons to gather people together, whether at New Year’s celebrations, live music outings, or church small groups.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Frances Schmidt and his son, Michael Schmidt.
A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held on Friday, May 15, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Richard’s Episcopal Church in Round Rock, Texas. All are welcome to attend and share in remembering a life so well lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Saint Richards Episcopal Church in his name.
As we mourn Bobby’s passing, we also celebrate the full and meaningful life he lived. May we honor his memory by living with purpose, embracing our passions, and cherishing those we love. Though he is no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing he rests in the presence of God.
