Blue's obituary
In Loving Memory of the Five Blue Velvets
(Neocaridina davidi, Blue Velvet variety)
With heavy hearts and slightly confused aquarium parameters, we announce the untimely passing of five beloved Blue Velvet shrimp who briefly but enthusiastically inhabited a 3.4-gallon planted nano aquarium.
The shrimp were welcomed into their new home on February 25th 2026, where they immediately dedicated themselves to grazing algae, investigating every blade of dwarf hairgrass, and disappearing into plants whenever anyone tried to count them. Despite their short stay, they contributed greatly to the ecosystem, the aesthetic of the tank, and the emotional well-being of their caretaker.
They are survived by:
• One extremely confused aquarist
• A suspiciously thriving population of biofilm
• Monte Carlo, dwarf hairgrass, and assorted floaters
• A drop checker that remained dark blue through it all
During their brief lives, the shrimp demonstrated admirable qualities including tireless grazing, mysterious vanishing acts, and the ability to cause disproportionate emotional distress relative to their size.
Their passing occurred on March 3, 2026, after a short but memorable residence in what was widely considered a luxurious planted environment.
They will be remembered for their dedication to algae removal, their gentle antennae, and their quiet but persistent judgment of water parameters.
A Celebration of Life / Shrimp Funeral will be held in their honor. Attendees are encouraged to wear aquatic colors, bring beverages, and share memories of small creatures who tried their best.
In lieu of flowers, guests may bring:
• Snacks
• Drinks
• Questionable aquarium advice
• Or simply their presence
May they graze peacefully in the great biofilm field beyond.
