Blair's obituary

Blair Meredith Henderson, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his loving family on November 13, 2021. Blair fought a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. Blair was born in Forest Grove, Oregon on September 2, 1942, to Ellison and Helen Henderson and was the second of three children.

Blair was born into a hard-working logging family. His family home, now Chapman Hall on the Pacific University campus, provided a large playground for Blair and his brother and sister to enjoy. His siblings recall fondly how Blair was a survivor from a young age - from being hit by a truck, to falling out of a car, Blair always found a way to rebound quickly from unfortunate events. He graduated in 1960 from Forest Grove Union High School and attended Oregon State University for one year. He then transferred to Willamette University where he graduated with a degree in Psychology. He continued at Willamette to complete his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1969. While there he joined Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was able to influence the hiring process for House Mother with his Aunt Bernice being the successor. During law school, he interned with Art Beddoe, and after passing the bar, he moved to Klamath Falls to join Art's practice. In the early 1970s, he and Jerry Molatore began practicing together and enjoyed their working relationship for the majority of Blair's legal career. Marc joined him as a law clerk in 2001, and as an associate attorney in 2002. Blair relished the courtroom battle as a fierce trial lawyer, and was a man of strong principle. He held a special place in his heart for those in need and took on numerous pro bono cases over the years. Blair enjoyed a successful legal career for nearly forty years.

While at Willamette University, Blair met Patricia French and they were married in 1965. They had two children, Brittany and Marcus. The family took pleasure in vacationing at the Oregon Coast, skiing at Mt Bachelor, fishing mountain lakes and rivers, and golfing. Many summers included trips to Portland and Gearhart, Oregon with Blair's law school friends and their families. Blair was extremely proud of his two children and the wonderful adults they have become.

Blair married Marcie Lyman on December 22, 2000, after being together for eleven years. The surprise wedding was held in their home and was disguised as a Christmas party. Blair and Marcie loved their miniature Schnauzer fur babies, Alibi, Miranda, Alibi Too, and their most recent addition, JD. Blair and Marcie had a wonderful life and relationship, and adored each other immensely. They cherished time with close friends in Klamath Falls and the Willamette Valley, and enjoyed hosting BBQs and holiday celebrations.

Blair was a kid-at-heart and he loved to play. He was an avid sports and Oregon State Beaver fan and he also loved everything about planes, trains, and automobiles. At one point he had his pilot's license and owned his own plane. He and his brother enjoyed woodworking and he was an excellent craftsman. One of Blair's greatest passions was the game of golf. He was a long-time member of Reames Golf and Country Club where he provided lessons to his children. Later, Marc joined him as a member. Marc and Blair had a special bond through the game and Blair was incredibly proud/frustrated when Marc excelled in skill and began beating him! They played many years of twilight league together, and Marc even got to join him in participating in one of his favorite small tournaments, the Pacific Cup. They never seemed to play without engaging in a wager. Blair's love of the game recently inspired Brittany to take up golf after a thirty-year hiatus. While his health did not allow him to enjoy golf with Brittany, he recently was happy to provide her with well-meaning advice about each hole through text messages as she played one of his favorite courses, Astoria Country Club. One of Blair's fondest memories was his golf trip with friends to Scotland. He was able to play the Old Course, Muirfield, Royal Troon, and Prestwick, to name a few. Blair loved watching PGA tournaments on television and especially the Ryder Cup where he would compare his rounds with the professionals. In Blair's mind, there was no difference! Blair's sharp wit and playful spirit was cherished by those who loved and knew him. He was a good listener and highly respected by his peers.

Blair is survived by his wife Marcie, Klamath Falls; daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren Brittany, Lance, Sophia and Sarah Fisher, Lake Oswego, Oregon; son and daughter-in-law and grandchildren, Marcus, Stacy, Sloan, Ellison Henderson, and Hunter Blair, Klamath Falls; mother of their children, Trish Henderson, Klamath Falls; brother Elbert Henderson; sister-in-law Annette Henderson; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Warren Wiley, Klamath Falls; brother and sister in-law Mark and Lori Lyman, Bend, Oregon; and sister-in-law Cindy Mee, Klamath Falls. Blair leaves numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends who were very dear to him.

Blair is preceded in death by his parents, Ellison and Helen Henderson; mother-in-law, Marjorie Lyman; and brothers-in-law David Lyman and Paul Mee.

Blair was incredibly grateful for the excellent care he received over the past ten years at Sky Lakes Medical Center and Oregon Health & Science University. He was so appreciative of his numerous medical providers and caregivers who lovingly referred to him as "Cancer King". In particular, he was grateful for Dr. Joanna Jodko's dedicated service and special care.

A celebration of life will be held in early summer when the sun is shining, and the weather is warm. In remembrance of Blair's life, consider making a donation to the Sky Lakes Medical Center Cancer Treatment Center. Checks can be mailed to Sky Lakes Foundation, 2865 Daggett Ave., Klamath Falls, OR 97601 with Blair Henderson in the memo line. You can also make a donation by going to www.skylakes.org/donate.
