Birdie's obituary

A beautiful baby girl was born on March 30, 1941, in Saint Louis, MO, to Eugenia Laura Bell Whitney and Charles McKee: Birdie Charline McKee. The youngest of Laura’s three children, she was blessed with a second family, her foster mother and father, Anna Belle Travis, and Simon Thomas Travis.

Birdie attended Soldan High School in St. Louis, MO, graduating at the top of her class. Birdie decided to dedicate her life to Christ at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church. She later found a church home in Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church 1500 S Hanley Rd. There she rededicated her life and became an active member of the church. She functioned as President of the Sanctuary Choir for several years, contributed to various boards and committees, and remained a faithful member until her sunset.

Birdie being a jack of all trades worked at the YMCA, Bi State Development, Macy’s, and Grace Hill before retiring and enjoying her life as grandmother. Active in her community, Birdie also worked as both the treasurer and an elected official, on the BOT for Uplands Park. Birdie loved bowling, her children, and her Church. All who knew her understood her love language was

“straight, no-chaser,” but laden with love, life, and direction. She welcomed all who needed a word of encouragement, and to be reminded of God’s love and mercy. In her life, she sought God no matter the circumstance and blessed many with an introduction to Christ.

Affectionately called BMAC, Mama Birdie, Aunty Birdie, Bochi, NeeNee, Granny, Nana, Ms. Birdie, and the most important Mom. She leaves in love her daughter, Travis DeAnn McKee, her grandchildren, Tajiri Amariana and King Tahir Jerome, sisters, Joyce Johnson, Aldean McKee, Barbara Phillips, Deborah McKee, Lillian Rusan, Mary Ellen Ericks, Donna Bell and brother, Robert McKee. Not to mention the numerable number of children/family she adopted and that adopted her.
