Pat's obituary
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Billy Patrick Murphy, affectionately known to most simply as Pat. Born on November 25, 1948, he left this earthly realm on September 3, 2025, concluding a life full of joy, achievements, and love.
Pat was a cherished member of the Murphy family and is lovingly survived by his daughter, Cheryl Murphy-Sessums, and his granddaughter, Kaisley Murphy of Tyler, Tx. Their memories of him will forever be infused with his passion for life, his remarkable determination, and his love for his family and friends.
He is reunited in death with his parents, John and Gertie Murphy, his brothers John Murphy Jr. and Jack Murphy, and his sisters Ruth Garrett, Chris Cottle, Louise Ayers-Higbee, and Sue Lanphier. He also joins his nephews Jobn Dale Murphy, Kelly Murphy, Little Jack Murphy, and Randy Murphy who predeceased him.
Pat was a proud graduate of Chapel Hill High School in Tyler, TX, class of 1967. He was known as a friendly and active member of the community, where he owned and operated Murphy Concrete & Construction. Pat had a particular fondness for shooting pool, reading and spending time with friends and family.
Beyond his personal life, Pat had a successful career and an illustrious presence in the world of football. His skills earned him the honor of All American Football and an induction into the Kilgore Hall of Fame in 2009. His time spent at Mississippi State and Louisiana Tech was marked with achievement and recognition, notably being referred to as “the boy with the golden toe”.
The void left by Pat's departure is immense. He will forever be remembered as a significant part of our lives, and his memory will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him. He lived a life full of love and meaningful relationships, and his legacy will continue to thrive in the hearts of all those touched by his existence.
