Bill's obituary

Billy Ray (Bill) Cookston passed away on March 28, 2025, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson, MS.

Bill was born in Royce City, Texas to Alfred Marion Cookston and Willie Mae Warren Cookston on December 13, 1936. He attended Royce City High School, then graduated from Texas A &M, Commerce. He was inducted into the Royce City High School Hall of Fame in 2020.

Bill married Nadine Turner, and together they had two children, Michele Rae Cookston Fowler and Peter Turner Cookston. Throughout his life, he worked as a banker and consultant for several federal agencies. He enjoyed gardening, fossil and coin collecting, and supporting Baylor University athletics, which Nadine attended. He was also a supporter of several causes that helped our veterans, such as the Wounded Warrior Project.

In 2008, he married Brenda Price. He was preceded in death by his daughter Michele and his wife, Brenda. He is survived by a brother, James Edward Cookston of Royce City, Texas, and a sister, Virginia (Ginger) Bailey of Mineola, TX; his son Peter; his grandchildren Zachary Turner Cookston, Lauren Elyse Cookston; his granddaughter Olivia Marie Tice, his great-grandson Knox William Michael Tice, his stepdaughter Michele Escudé, her children, Sgt First Class Gabriel Escudé and Corinn Blanton.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 12, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
