Billee's obituary

Billee Jeane Orange was born to perform. With a voice that commanded attention and a magnetic stage presence, she began her musical journey at just 14 years old, singing in nightclubs and captivating audiences far beyond her years. Throughout her career, she performed with numerous bands—most notably Glass Pyramid, which later gained major recognition. She also formed and lead the all-female group Short n Sazzy, touring and performing across the region.

Over the decades, Billee Jeane mastered her craft and shared the stage with some of the most legendary names in music. Her powerful vocals and vibrant energy earned her a place alongside icons such as Charlie Wilson and The Gap Band, The Dells, Millie Jackson, Atlantic Starr, Midnight Star, Average White Band, Skyy, Dorothy Moore, Starpoint, The Deele, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Klymaxx, The Whispers, The O’Jays, Zapp & Roger, Bobby Womack, The Temptations, The Dramatics, Sly Stone, J. Blackfoot, Al Green, Jennifer Holliday, Freddie Jackson, George Benson, Sinbad, and many more.

Her talent and passion took her across Europe, where she performed under the name “American Tourist” in Germany, Holland, Paris, Amsterdam, and Luxembourg. As the powerhouse lead vocalist for the original band Out of Nowhere, Billee Jeane distinguished herself as both the only American and the only woman in the group—winning over international audiences with her unforgettable voice and original sound.

In her later years, Billee Jeane embraced entrepreneurship by finding new ways to express her creativity. She used her gift of music as a form of therapy and joy, performing for older adults and in assisted living facilities, where her voice once again brought comfort, healing, and unforgettable moments to those who needed it most. Her passion for connecting through music never faded—it simply evolved into a deeper purpose.

Beyond the spotlight, Billee Jeane was a mother and grandmother. She is survived by four children: Dawanta Parks, Ty-nesha Parks, Trystan Tiffany, and Taeleigh Johnson, and five grandchildren: Alexandra Parks, Jalen Parks, Justin Parks, Julion Parks, and Journee Parks. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Dwaine Parks.

Billee Jeane’s legacy lives on in the music she made and the lives she has impacted. She lived by her own accord her spirit, strength, and song will never be forgotten.
