Bill's obituary
Bill contributed as a highly skilled and respected architect and urban planner to the design of many of the most significant award winning New Urbanist projects of the past 30 years, both nationally and internationally. He was a key member of the DownCity Providence Charrettes and he led and participated in hundreds of other design charrettes.
Bill was a founding member of both the Congress for New Urbanism and The New Urban Guild. A valued and caring mentor, he inspired and taught many young architects and planners about the timeless principles of placemaking, sustainable walkable neighborhoods and traditional urban design.
Born in Dayton OH in 1955, he is survived by Mary Barclay, his wife of 34 years, their daughter Zoe, his brothers: David, Robert and James, and his sister Nancy Shah. He was preceded by his parents, James L. and Francis Edwina Kirtley Dennis
He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BSA in 1979.
Playful at heart, he was caring, compassionate, a talented artist and irreverent humorist, with a passion for travel and good food.
Through thick and thin Bill lived in the present with optimism and a ready smile for family, friends and colleagues. He will be missed by all.
