Beverly's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Beverly McElroy, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Beverly McElroy, a woman known for her vibrant personality and warm heart, was born on July 6, 1945, and peacefully passed away on April 12, 2024. Cherished by all who knew her, she was a woman with an infectious spirit, a vivacious laugh, and a deep love for her family.
Beverly is survived by her devoted husband, James David McElroy, her loving daughter, Kelli Parks, her cherished grandchildren, Matthew Cox, Jason Booe, and Jennifer Booe and by her sweet great-granddaughters Luna Booe-Bollig and Brielle Booe as well as many extended family and friends. Beverly was sadly predeceased by her parents, Roy and Oleta Lansdowne, and her dear daughter, Kimberly Buchanan.
Beverly was an only child with the spirit of an only child. Her father was a military man, and her mother was an educator. Beverly lived and spent her early years in Savannah, OK but moved to Oklahoma City during her teen years. She attended Grant H.S. in OKC as a member of the Class of 1963. She proudly proclaimed to be a daddy’s girl, but she lost her father just after becoming a mother. Then Beverly lost her mother just before becoming a grandmother for the first time. Losing her mother and becoming a grandmother in the span of a few months, had a profound effect on her. Beverly took the role of family matriarch very seriously. Beverly never denied enjoying being a grandparent more than being a parent.
Following 2 previous marriages, and 2 wonderful daughters, she met and married a man who had never been married and had no children to drag into the marriage. David was her person. They were married for over 53 years. He was the stability she needed to balance her vibrant spirit. She would call him James David when he was in trouble or simply David when she needed him by her side. And he was there by her side every day of their marriage and was there by her side until her last moments on earth. He was devoted to her, the family unit they created, the life they built together (including building a waterfront house on Lake Eufaula) and to her happiness every day they spent together. She would ask, and he would do everything in his power to deliver. He was her person in life.
Growing up as an only child, then marrying into an extremely large family (David was the oldest of 25 grandkids), Beverly really enjoyed the buzz and movement of a large family. Many times the hostess of the holiday dinner, the life-of-the-party at other times, and best of all were the times she cooked breakfast for her grandkids and great grandkids we her best times. Her love extended to her son-in-law Dennis, and her bonus grandkids by marriage; Garrett and Layla. Marrying into a large family, there are too many to list to honor all whom have molded Beverly's life. She wouldn't have been who she was without you all in her life.
Her professional and personal life collided when she began working in the banking industry. It all started at the new Liberty Tower downtown OKC at Liberty Bank. It was there that she met several of what would be life-long friends. They shared decades of celebrated milestones, difficult loses, football parties, camping/boating trips, country line-dancing, vacationing together, numerous battles around the Wahoo board, and many times sharing our family table at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She had an especially close friend Nancy Francis that was not only part of that friends group but also her neighbor across the street for over 20 years.
She was known by most as Beverly, to some she was Aunt Bev, to her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren she was their MeMe, and even DaDa, but for her 2 daughters, she was simply known as Mom. Beverly's beautiful legacy transcends her bloodline, extending into the fourth generation and beyond. This beautiful thread of love and legacy is a testament to her incredible strength and nurturing spirit, especially profound as Beverly herself was adopted. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts. Anyone who knew Beverly knew of her love for Elvis Presley's music, her loyalty to The Oklahoma Sooners, and that she loved vacationing in Hawaii and Graceland.
She lived her life with a contagious joy, a resilient spirit, and a steadfast love for family and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her as we strive to carry on her legacy of love, laughter, and life lived to the fullest. Beverly may not be with us physically, but her spirit, her teachings, and her love will forever be ingrained in our hearts. May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory live on in all those who knew her.
