Beverly's obituary

Beverly Fay Hitch (neé Walton) of Salisbury, MD, passed away on May 9, 2025, surrounded by her family and showered with love.

Beverly—also known as Miss Bev or Tiger—was born to Robert Lewis Walton and Alice Wymer Walton on July 9, 1965, in Salisbury. She was the youngest sibling to Barbara Rease, Robert Walton, and Donna Ayers; she is survived by both her sisters. Beverly attended Bennet High School in Salisbury and earned both a Certificate in Early Childhood Studies and an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science Early Childhood Education Technology from Delaware Technical & Community College. At the time of her passing, she was enrolled online at the University of Phoenix, working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education—with a 3.94 GPA.

Throughout her life, Beverly’s work had a central theme: taking care of others. In 2005, she founded the Bundle of Hope Mission, which shipped supplies to children impacted by Hurricane Katrina. For many years she ran Bullfrogs & Butterflies Child Care from her home. Later, she served as the Program Manager of the Ace Peer Resource Center in Seaford and spent a few years as a Head Teacher at the HeadStart in Laurel before becoming an Assistant Teacher at the Berlin Education Station. At the time of her passing, Beverly was a Director at Bundles of Joy University.

Beverly was predeceased by her parents and brother. She is survived by her children: Joseph McCabe, Jessica Morris, Catherine Cheek, and Nichole Cheek. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kristoffer McCabe, Izac McCabe, McKenna Morris, Gavin McCabe, and Greyson McCabe. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great-grandchild, Nova Fay Drayton, when she passed.

Before her death, Beverly fought cancer with courage and dignity—and she fought well. Although she ultimately passed from a rare but related complication, her granddaughter was able to “ring the bell” to honor her successful treatment.

Beverly was strong, caring, and creative. She was simultaneously sensitive and resilient. She opened her arms, her heart, and her home to anyone who needed them. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Her friends and family were blessed by their years with her, and she will be terribly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Evangelistic Church in Laurel, DE, at 3PM on Saturday, May 31st. In lieu of flowers, Beverly’s loved ones request that you make a donation in her name to UNC’s Division of Pulmonary Diseases, in order to fund research on Interstitial Lung Disease. You may do so at give.unc.edu/tribute/hitch.
