Beverly's obituary

Air Force Veteran. Breast cancer survivor. Gardener. Feminist. Craftswoman. Activist. Caring mother and wife. Proud aunt and big sister. Throughout her life, Beverly Telschow Anderson led with strength, love and an adventurous spirit, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire those who loved her.

Beverly A. Telschow Anderson, age 70, of Poulsbo, Washington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22nd, 2023, in Tacoma, Washington.

Beverly was born on May 28, 1953, in Hackensack, New Jersey. She grew up in Ringwood, NJ, the oldest of five siblings born to Clarence and Lillian Telschow.

Beverly was a graduate of New Jersey’s Lakeland Regional High School and furthered her education at the Berdan Institute Secretarial School in Pompton Lakes, NJ. Driven by her desire to explore the world around her, Beverly then traveled across the country to live in California before enlisting in the United States Air Force.

During her time in the Air Force, a night out and a dance to “The Twist” introduced Beverly to fellow Airman Bruce H. Anderson, a connection that led to a marriage lasting 46 years, until her passing. Together, they created homes in Lompoc, California and in and around Poulsbo, Washington with their beloved son, Ryan Anderson, who was born in 1981. Beverly later proudly obtained her Associate’s degree and worked as an accomplished medical transcriptionist for over 40 years.

Beverly prided herself on being an outspoken feminist and advocate for women’s rights, joining protests and activist efforts at a young age, and pushing past barriers throughout her life and career. In the Air Force, Beverly made inroads where there weren’t any and became the first woman to hold her position in the dental surgeon’s office. A proud breast cancer survivor of 23 years, she inspired others with her strength and always encouraged those around her to advocate for themselves and for what is right.

Beverly was a craftswoman, often creating new pieces of handmade art and clothing items as gifts for loved ones. She dedicated herself to remembering important dates in the lives of those she loved, always making sure to send a card or gift for every birthday and holiday. She was known to do things outside of the ordinary, even in decisions like picking out her stylish lime green car.

A few of Beverly’s greatest joys included reading novels, indulging in her lifelong love of learning, gardening, crocheting special gifts for others and blankets for Project Linus, growing her assortment of teapots, raising and searching online for new Corgi dogs, and - one of her most cherished pastimes - driving her Miata along the California coast with her favorite co-pilot, her dog Benji.

In the next part of her journey, Beverly joins her beloved son Ryan Anderson, stepson Bryce Anderson, a baby daughter born still, siblings Tina, Robert, and John Telschow, her parents, and many pets that accompanied her on adventures here with us.

Left to cherish her memory are Beverly’s husband Bruce Anderson, sister Nancy (Carlton) Christman, several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, extended family and friends, and her adored pets: Sassy, Miss Kitty, and a parakeet.

Beverly did not wish for a funeral, but we welcome and appreciate the sharing of any memories or remarks on this page as we honor and celebrate her legacy. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to donate in her name to one of the causes near and dear to Beverly: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Kitsap County Humane Society, or the Washington Chapter of Project Linus, a nonprofit that provides handmade blankets to children in need.
